Calgary has not stopped building, and that keeps painters busy in two
directions at once.
On one side are the new communities — Seton, Livingston, Cornerstone —
filling in faster than anyone expected, each arriving with hundreds of
homes whose owners want something other than builder beige before the
second winter. On the other sit Bridgeland, Inglewood and Mount Royal,
full of houses standing for decades and now changing hands to people who
want them brought back properly. Different work, steady demand for both.
That is what we are hiring into. We take on interior and exterior
residential work across the city and have more of it than the current
crew can absorb.
What it's like to work here
The work does not stop in October. Exterior season in
Alberta is short, and a lot of painting outfits shed people the moment it
closes. We built the business around interior work — repaints, cabinets,
ceilings, basements — specifically so the schedule carries through
winter. You are not being hired for six months.
Apprentices get paid to learn. Training happens on the
clock, on real jobs, beside someone who knows what they are doing. There
is no expectation that you arrive knowing how to cut a line or lay off a
door. There is an expectation that you want to learn it.
The crew is small enough that you are a name. You will
know everyone you work with, and when something goes wrong you will talk
to a person rather than a process.
We would rather do it right than do it fast. Our quotes
include preparation, two coats, and the time those actually take. Nobody
here is told to rush a job to make a number work. If that is the kind of
standard you want to paint to, we are probably a good fit.
